| I grew up in OC and as a kid of the
70's I enjoyed going to the Costa Mesa fairgrounds on a warm summers
evening to cheer on my favorite speedway heroes like Danny Becker, Sony
Nutter and Rick Woods. As I got older my interests changed and I seemed to
outgrow those simple evening at the fairgrounds. Flash forward 30 years and still living in Orange County, I decided to make a run over to the race this last Saturday night. It was like stepping into a time machine. The track, the stands, the bikes, the smell... it was all just as I left it. It was wonderful. Sure the names had changed in the program and the folks in the stands traded in their bell-bottoms for tattoos and piercings but other than that it was just as I remembered it. The only thing missing was Larry Hoffman announcing the riders like "Danny Berzerko Becker" "Lightning Larry Shaw" and "Wild Bill Cody." June 2007 |
